Steffan Colls

John Clentworth
- John Clentworth is a Civil Engineering and Business consultant. He is currently Managing Director of his own consultancy business, Clentworth Consulting Ltd (CCL) and a private in-house Managing Consultant for Total Control Drilling (TCD) for selected projects.
- He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Canterbury University (1968) and has 40 years’ senior management and technical experience in the civil engineering construction industry.
- He is a member of the Institute of Directors in New Zealand, a graduate member of the Institute of Professional Engineers, and a life member of Roading New Zealand.
- He has extensive corporate governance experience over a period of 20 years and holds Directorships in a number of private companies in the education and training fields, in a group of companies involved in civil engineering construction and road construction, maintenance and surfacing contracting and the supply of aggregates and concrete; and in a well-drilling contracting company.
- His principal areas of expertise are:
- Business development, management, and administration and contract management.
- Corporate governance practices.
- Water well drilling and construction and well drilling practices.
- Prior to commencing his own consultancy business in 1998, he was employed (28 years) by the Technic Roading and Civil Engineering Companies, a substantial national group of private contracting companies.
- From 1971 to 1980, he was Engineer/Manager of the first of the companies in the Group; Group General Manager from 1980 to 1986, and Chief Executive from 1986 through to August 1997.
- He stayed with the Group as a Senior Executive until September 1998 when the business was sold to Works Infrastructure.
- In his consultancy business, he has been involved in:
- Provision, under contract, of short-term Chief Executive and Senior Management services to contracting organisations.
- Providing advice and assistance in the resolution of Civil Engineering contractual disputes.
- The provision of strategic planning, management, and administrative advice to contracting organisations. The administrative advice includes the setting up and ongoing maintenance of Accounting and Management Information; Job Costing, and Estimating systems for contractors.
- The provision of a consultancy service to Transfund New Zealand, as part of their Major Projects Review.
- Co-presentation of Transfund’s Competitive Pricing Procedures workshops/ seminars in eight locations throughout the country, during March and April 2000.
